MILES HUNT: A MELANCHOLY PLAYLIST FROM THE WONDER STUFF

MILES HUNT: A MELANCHOLY PLAYLIST FROM THE WONDER STUFF

“Looking back on my life, my successes and my failings, in order to write the book I found myself in some pretty reflective moods. These are just a few songs that have been with me during the last twenty five plus years and listening to them as I wrote certainly helped me reach some of those old buried emotions that I needed to uncover.”

The Smiths – Reel Around The Fountain
Riding the Number Nine bus between Stourbridge and Birmingham on winter mornings in 1986, dreaming of being a singer in a band.

Jane’s Addiction – Jane Says
Falling for a girl with great taste in music in New York City in 1989.

Jo Stafford – You Belong To Me
Dancing on a tour bus in middle America during the early 90’s with my brother, Russ. Both of us so happy to be making that journey together.

The Clash – Gates Of The West
The Clash have been my constant companion for as long as I can remember. Mick’s voice tears me up every time I hear this.

REM – Talk About The Passion
Our original drummer, Martin Gilks, sadly no longer with us, turned me onto REM. It was a massive gift.

Richard Thompson – 1952 Vincent Black Lightning
Story songs… I’ve tried so many times to write a story song. It’s unlikely anyone will ever better this one.

The Waterboys – The Thrill Is Gone
I shared my love of The Waterboys with my first long term girlfriend. The band stole me away from her.

Rickie Lee Jones – We Belong Together
Aah… Rickie, Rickie, Rickie… how long have we been together now..? Another story song, beautifully arranged. She can do no wrong in my book.

Joni Mitchell – A Case Of You
This is the soundtrack to freezing cold nights spent in my first flat, 1985. I was piss poor and suffered a jaundiced liver so I was unable to booze for a year. I wouldn’t have changed it for the world.

The Cure – Pictures Of You
Memories of both Martin Gilks and Rob ‘The Bass Thing’ Jones, our original bass player, both sadly now gone. But oh how they loved The Cure, as do I.
