THE CHARLATANS : PLAYLIST

The Charlatans’ frontman Tim Burgess picks a few of his favourite sounds to listen on his playlist  whilst on the open road.

We’re on tour in the USA at the moment so I’m relying on my ipod to keep me going. Between gigs there’s quite a lot of travelling time so I’ve gone for the kind of atmospheric songs I like to listen to while travelling.
It’s my tour travel tips.

R. Stevie Moore > Pop Music
I recorded with R Stevie a couple of years ago. He’s always cited as the king of lo fi. He’s criminally under rated – we need that to change. Someone’s just making a film about him so that might help. Sharon Horgan asked me to recommend some songs while she was putting together the soundtrack for Catastrophe, she ended up using this in a brilliant scene. We’re all doing our bit to help the world love R Stevie Moore

BMX Bandits > Serious Drugs
I sent a message to Douglas asking them to support us in Dundee and he said yes. I’m just listening to some of their records and they really suit the American scenery

Dean Blunt > 100
From Hype Williams loving the atmosphere of this record – just does something to me

Throbbing Gristle > Cornets
TG are a staple in my music diet and at the moment in my hotel room in NYC Heathen Earth is my backdrop

Laurel Halo > Years
From a playlist made for me by Nik Void of Factory Floor – its very peaceful a bit Nico a bit Durruti Column (I get along without you very well ) one of my favourites

Durutti Column > I Get Along Without You Very Well
Tony Wilson’s first wife Lindsay Reade sings vocals on this ace Durutti Column 7″ Not only reminding me of home but of the genius of Vini Reilly. I have been talking a lot to Vini lately and playing all his records again.
