When did you first realise photography was your calling?

Since picking up my camera in 2020, photography has transformed my life. My journey began in St. Lucia at the bustling Castries Market, capturing a friend standing still amidst the vibrant movement around him. That defining moment, frozen in a slow shutter, gave me the first genuine feeling of being a photographer. It revealed the power of storytelling through subtle details, a style that’s become the signature of my work.

St. Pete, Florida, is your home base—what’s the essence of the city that others might miss?

Often mistaken as merely a beach destination, St. Pete holds deeper warmth and love that I strive to capture. The city’s authentic essence lies in its diverse neighbourhoods, rich culture and gritty beauty. To me, St. Pete moves to the soulful rhythm of classic R&B slow jams mixed with down-south hip-hop—a unique beat that profoundly shapes my creative flow.

Growing up in St. Pete, what early moments influenced your visual storytelling?

The simplest moments had the deepest impact. Car rides with my Dad, stopping at the homes of friends and family, created lasting impressions that I now immortalise through my lens. Scenes of hair braiding on porches and elders enjoying quiet afternoons in their living rooms continue to inspire my work. If I had to encapsulate St. Pete in one image, it would reflect the diverse beauty of its residents, palm trees, classic cars, children at play, and elders engaging in vibrant street-side activities.

Which destination has most influenced your career as a travel photographer?

My travels, especially to St. Lucia, significantly shaped my global perspective. Immersed in its culture through a local friend’s guidance, that journey was pivotal. It landed me representation with AMP Agency in London and sparked global opportunities. Whether collaborating with brands like Vans, Timberland, or Vogue or photographing legends like Nas and Wu-Tang, my approach remains true to my authentic vision, always balancing creative integrity with client objectives.

You often highlight overlooked communities. Which city outside your hometown has inspired you most creatively?

Cities like New York fuel my creativity immensely. The city’s rich legacy, captured in iconic photographs from the ’90s hip-hop era, aligns perfectly with my raw, authentic aesthetic. Every visit inspires new creativity and pushes me to capture its relentless energy.

How do you stay grounded moving between diverse cultures and locations?

Navigating various cities and cultures, I stay grounded by seeking universal human connections. Observing with genuine curiosity helps me uncover spontaneous, vibrant moments everywhere. Cities like Los Angeles have surprised me, defying stereotypes by offering cultural depth and diversity reminiscent of home. My photography focuses on hidden stories—the textured details of life that most tourists overlook.

Has travelling changed the way you view your hometown?

Returning to St. Pete after travelling gives me fresh perspectives and renewed appreciation for familiar scenes. One special spot I revisit regularly is Martin Luther King Street South (9th Street), especially on MLK Day. It’s a powerful reminder of my community’s vitality and my roots, constantly presenting fresh stories to document.

What’s the common thread between your global and local photography?

Authenticity is the common thread throughout my global and hometown photography. From capturing vibrant street life in Tokyo to the quiet dignity of St. Pete’s neighbourhoods, I strive for deep, honest portrayals of people and culture. Connecting personally before photographing helps me balance being an observer and an active participant, allowing my images to resonate genuinely.

What’s next for your creative travel journey?

Cities often seem to choose me, as New York did, matching my ambition and creative spirit. Next, London awaits. I’m eager to explore its creative energy, collaborate on editorials, and rekindle my artistic inspiration, ensuring my journey continues to highlight the raw urban realism that has become my hallmark.
