1200 indigneous Romney Ewes are based on the farm

Ewe are going to love it!
The huts are located on a working farm home to chickens, roosters and 1200 indigneous Romney Ewes, who are also famously known as Kentish Sheep. The field itself is full of these cute woolley ruminants who add to the rural experience and quickly scooch out of the way if you get too close to them.

After collecting your key from the safe, load up the provided trolley with your belongings and lug it across the field to your home away from home for the next two days.

Owner Kristina Boulden: ‘We loved the idea of being able to share this beautiful area of outstanding natural beauty, which we are so blessed to be able to live and work on’.

After a very short mosey across the field you’ll arrive at your hut (ours was the ‘Rumwold’s Hut’). These quaint, charming and striking blue huts are made from corrugated iron and built by local designer Julian from Elham Valley Shepherds Huts, who works from the original plans from 1900. Outside on your porch, is a wooden bench and two very comfy, and sturdy, wooden adirondack chairs. They are positioned perfectly to take in the endless green picturesque countryside around you and watch the glorious sunset, which we suggest doing whilst enjoying a bottle of locally sourced ‘Ortega’ wine.

Cosy and comfy – the huts include an open plan bedroom, kitchen and foldable chairs and table to save space

Oh my gourd!
On the door is a gorgeous autumnal reef and inside there is plenty more warming seasonal decor, including adorable wool felted pumpkins! The whole hut is so snug and homely, with an open plan bedroom, kitchen and foldable chairs and table to save space. In the bedroom area you’ll find a radio to play some relaxing tunes and some fairy lights to add to the ambience and serenity. A ‘Copperhurst British Romney Wool Herringbone Throw’, ‘Fostum British Romney Wool Cushion’ and a ‘Hand Knitted Pure British Romney Hot Water Bottle’ are atop our bed. They are super soft to the touch and a great way to keep ourselves warm and comfy. All are made from their sister company ‘Romney Marsh Wools’ and are available to purchase to bring the comfort home with you.

The kitchen is perfect for prepping the Breakfast Box

Pots, pans, fire pits aplenty!
In the kitchen is an electric hob with pots and pans galore. From a garlic crusher, to skewers for roasting marshmallows over the fire pit, they really have thought of everything. In the bathroom is a dual headed shower, dressing gowns, plenty of towels and complimentary branded Romney Marsh toiletries, which consists of shampoo, soap, shower gel, hand and body lotion.

The breakfast box (which costs only £15) is jam packed with locally sourced goodies including a loaf of bread, bacon, sausages and eggs (vegetarian options available too). In the kitchen you’ll also find complimentary tea, coffee, cookies, butter, cereal, jam and marmalade, all sourced to support local businesses. The fridge is on the smaller side, but plenty of room for the essentials for a short stay.

During your stay, Romney Marsh Shepherds Hut provides with you a bag of kindling, firelighters, wood and extra logs located just outside your hut. These can be used on the fire pit outside, which is great to use as a bbq/grill too, or in the wood burner inside to stay toasty the environmentally friendly way. You can purchase more wood (small bag £5 or large bag for £10) by texting or calling the number in your welcome pack. A really lovely way to take in the gorgeous stars and landscape around you, even on slightly chillier evenings.

But what can you do?
We thought being in the rural areas of the Garden of England, we wouldn’t have much discovering to do. We were so wrong! There is just so much to explore in this coastal utopia. From wine tasting, to brewery tours, to great local pubs, to mobile massages, to felting classes and 5 beaches to choose from, you really could tailor this retreat to suit your every mood! We decided to go on an Alpaca Trek with Alpaca Annie, followed by a trip to pebbly Dungeness beach (our phones actually thought we were in France!) and then for some classic pub food at the Woolpack Inn Warehorne.

So how much does it cost?

Priced for two adults at just £240 for a two night mid-week stay, this cosy, quaint, adorable getaway is the perfect way to switch off and reconnect. Available all year round, you can book your stay here now by visiting www.bloomstays.com/property/rumwold or call 01227 903 404
