SIX FEET APART: SOCIAL DISTANCING PORTRAITS BY CHRISTAAN FELBER

SIX FEET APART: SOCIAL DISTANCING PORTRAITS BY CHRISTAAN FELBER

Christaan is based in Upstate in Woodstock, NY.  This time of Global isolation has forced him to keep finding inspiration everywhere and keep taking photographs, even though I’m not sure if you’ve heard, but it’s not the best time for portrait photography at the moment. For Six Feet Apart, Christaan Felber focuses on the nature of social distancing and its effect on our ability communicate and interact.

Since the agreement has been made that six feet is the minimum distance of human-to-human contact that is safely acceptable, we have not only created a physical distance from each other, but a mental distance.
As a professional portrait photographer, I’ve developed a strong sensitivity to people’s expressions and demeanors and have noticed a shift in the way we communicate. Whenever I’ve ventured out into the world to pick up an essential item I see it in people’s eyes. They’re scared and untrusting. They dart back and forth in an attempt to avoid the awkwardness and fear that comes with fighting something invisible and not fully-understood.
This series of images explores the impact that social-distancing has on our ability to relate to each other. By using a measuring tape as visual bridge, these photos capture and reconnect us with the humanity that we all still share despite our physical separations.’

Each portrait was taken at exactly six-feet apart.
