THE GORE: DECADENT DRINKING AT BAR 190

THE GORE: DECADENT DRINKING AT BAR 190

We want to recommend that you go and hang out with Santo Borzi. He’s the Italian mixologist and master cocktail maker that calls his home Bar 190 at The Gore in the heart of Kensington.

Borzi is the most welcoming of hosts and is more than happy to talk through his remarkable concoctions, which he expertly brings to life in the iconic London bar. Surrounded by images of the famous Rolling Stones Beggars Banquet album launch party, which took place at the bar at the end of the 60s, the original wooden panelling and lavish furnishings that dominate the bar give off a distinct rock ‘n’ roll decadence vibe.

Sitting at the bar as our cocktails are prepared Borzi tells us about how he uses the history of The Gore hotel as inspiration; changing up the menu every season to bring new tastes, flavours, ideas, concepts and themes that help keep things fresh.

It’s much more about sharing an experience rather just sitting at the bar and choosing the same thing you usually would each time. Trying new ideas and pushing the boundaries of taste combinations is clearly how Borzi likes to approach his latest offerings.

During our visit he shared what can only be described as the sensation of drinking part of a cheese board from a glass. Stilton infused vodka, a wonderful smoky Old Fashioned as well as Japanese Sake inspired creations.

We popped in for one, we stayed for several, until at the end we were talking with a Keith Richards lilt.

So pop on your best (fake) fur jacket, Chelsea boots and eyeliner and get elegantly wasted at one of London’s absolutely finest cocktail bars.
