Mama Shelter Singapore: Playful Spirit Meets the Lion City
Bold, mischievous, and impossible to ignore, Mama Shelter lands in Singapore this September with her first Asian outpost. Located on Killiney Road, this 115-room property isn’t just about sleep, it’s about living, playing, and connecting in one of the world’s most vibrant cities.
Location
Mama Shelter Singapore sits between Orchard Road and the creative lifestyle precinct of New Bahru, just a short walk from Somerset MRT. It’s a prime spot to dive into the city’s retail, dining, and cultural pulse while staying close to its heritage streets and evolving neighbourhoods.
Design & Atmosphere
Designed by long-time collaborators Dion & Arles, Mama’s debut in Asia is a riot of colour, pattern, and cultural references. Interiors take cues from Singapore’s multicultural identity: Peranakan motifs, vibrant tiles, bamboo details, and animal-print flourishes. A monumental hand-painted mural by Parisian street artist Beniloys, created over three months on site, winds its way through the restaurant, rooftop, and lift lobbies, depicting peacocks, dragons, tigers, and maritime symbols that nod to Singapore’s Garden City spirit.
Everywhere you look, there’s theatre. From neon signage and arcade games in the lobby to lifts lined with patterned upholstery and moody lighting, the hotel feels like a living artwork; joyful, irreverent, and unashamedly playful. The rooftop channels a tropical clearing with mosaic-tiled pools, sunken game tables, and lush greenery, creating pockets of intimacy or spectacle as you choose.
Rooms & Suites
Mama Shelter Singapore is home to 115 rooms designed with character and comfort in equal measure. Concrete walls are softened with patterned textiles and woven headboards, while carpets take inspiration from traditional Peranakan wedding dress.
A first for the brand is the bunk room, perfect for families or groups of friends, while nearly half the rooms come with private terraces, another Mama milestone. Across the board, expect plush five-star bedding, 100% satin cotton sheets, soundproofing, large screens with films-on-demand, and bathroom amenities by Australian clean-beauty label Ink & Water.
Dining & Drinking
Mama has always led with food, and Singapore takes that ethos to new heights. On the ground floor, the open-plan Mama Restaurant and Island Bar are the heartbeat of the hotel, expect it to be buzzing with locals as much as guests. Executive Chef Eugene Tan will be bringing a local spark to brasserie-style dining, while acclaimed bartender Hazel Long has created a drinks list brimming with character and local flavours.
Sundays are for Mama’s legendary brunch, an indulgent, family-friendly spread of cold cuts, cheeses, roast joints, salads, pastas, and irresistible desserts. Upstairs, the Rooftop Bar & Restaurant doubles as a city-within-the-city escape. Think coastal Mediterranean plates, artisanal pizzas, spritz jugs, and skyline views, with one of the pools transforming into a stage for DJ sets. With sun loungers, striped umbrellas, and three tucked-away dining tables for private groups, it’s Mama at her most playful.

Facilities & Experiences
Entertainment is not background noise here; it’s the soul of the space. The raised stage and DJ booth keep the lobby alive, while rooftop programming includes live music, pop-ups, and late-night sets. Arcade games, board games, and pet-friendly tables bring a sense of community and conviviality. Two pools, a boutique Mama Shop (selling signature merch and fragrance), and vibrant communal areas blur the line between hotel and hangout.
Who It’s For
Travellers who want more than a bed, a design-driven, community-minded stay where creativity, food, and nightlife come first. Perfect for groups of friends, families seeking energy and ease, or locals looking for a new cultural hub.
