Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino does not ease you gently into the city. The moment you step through the doors, it feels as though something is already happening.
During our stay, the lobby and public spaces were filled with dance groups, performers and people arriving for music competitions. Costumes appeared in the lifts, contestants gathered in corners and conversations carried across the casino floor. With around 2,800 rooms, Westgate is a huge Las Vegas hotel, but it rarely feels anonymous. There is too much movement for that.
It is busy, a little theatrical and unmistakably Las Vegas.

Westgate Las Vegas is best known for its connection to Elvis Presley, its extensive live entertainment programme and its location beside the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Elvis began his celebrated Las Vegas residency here in 1969, when the property was known as the International Hotel. His relationship with the building remains visible throughout, making Westgate particularly appealing to visitors interested in the musical history of Las Vegas.
The hotel also has a large casino, the SuperBook race and sportsbook, its own Las Vegas Monorail station and rooms that are notably spacious by modern resort standards.

Westgate’s biggest story is also one of the city’s most famous. Elvis Presley began performing at the International Hotel in 1969, and his connection to the property continues to shape its identity.
Fans can view the former penthouse associated with his time at the hotel, offering a glimpse into the scale and excess of his Las Vegas years. The history does not feel tucked away in an archive. It remains part of the experience, from the photographs and memorabilia to the performances that continue to revisit his music.
The regular Elvis tribute show, The King Comes Home, draws on several stages of his career, moving through his early recordings, films, the 1968 television special, and his seven-year run at the International Hotel and Las Vegas Hilton.
Starring Joey Calveri as a very convincing Elvis, alongside Las Vegas and Broadway performers Paige Strafella and Derek Adams, the show runs from Wednesday to Sunday in the Westgate Cabaret Theater. It is an affectionate, high-energy production that makes particular sense in the building where so much of the original story unfolded.
For Elvis fans wondering where to stay in Las Vegas, Westgate offers more than a themed reference. It provides a direct connection to one of the most important periods in the city’s entertainment history.
A Las Vegas hotel that runs on live music
Elvis may provide the history, but Westgate’s entertainment culture is not limited to nostalgia.
Barry Manilow continues his long association with the property, while the International Bar provides a more informal soundtrack to the evening. Local acts, tribute bands and DJs perform in an open setting where guests are not expected to sit quietly and watch.
People get up and dance. Regulars greet one another. The atmosphere feels less polished and more spontaneous than some of the larger casino lounges on the Strip, with a crowd that appears to include as many locals as hotel guests.
It became one of our favourite parts of the hotel. You could stop for one drink, with the $2.99 Espresso Martinis providing a useful pick-me-up, and find yourself staying much longer as couples moved onto the dance floor for another familiar song.
The staff helped create that easy atmosphere. Many of the servers were older, experienced and genuinely friendly, with the kind of relaxed manner that cannot easily be scripted. Conversations felt natural and service had a personal quality that can be difficult to find in a Las Vegas resort of this size.
What are the rooms like at Westgate Las Vegas?
The rooms at Westgate Las Vegas are spacious, comfortable and practical, although their character comes more from their size and views than from highly individual interior design.
Our room had enough floor space to prevent suitcases, shopping bags and everyday clutter from taking over. In a city where many guests stay for conventions, competitions or longer entertainment-led trips, that extra room makes a noticeable difference.
Premier Rooms measure 400 square feet and sleep up to two guests in a king bed. Amenities include blackout curtains, a desk and chair, mini refrigerator, safe and Wi-Fi. Rooms may overlook the Las Vegas Strip or the neighbouring golf course, depending on allocation.
The interiors are modern and comfortable rather than especially theatrical. The real visual drama came from outside.
Rooms with a view of the Las Vegas Sphere
Our window looked towards the Las Vegas Sphere, which became an unexpected source of entertainment in its own right. At night, its surface shifted through faces, patterns and oversized animations.
There was something wonderfully strange about sitting in bed and watching a giant illuminated eye appear across the skyline. Shepard Fairey’s Earth Power Globe mandala proved a particular favourite, transforming the Sphere into an ornamental composition inspired by floral motifs and harmony with nature.
A Sphere view cannot be guaranteed across all room categories, so it is worth requesting one when booking or checking in. For us, it became one of the most memorable details of the stay.
Themed suites at Westgate Las Vegas
Guests who want their room to become part of the spectacle can choose from Westgate’s themed suites. The designs lean much further into the playful side of Las Vegas, with concepts including Christmas, Halloween, Mexico’s Day of the Dead and desert-inspired interiors. Depending on the suite, features may include separate living spaces, wet bars, balconies and multiple bathrooms. These suites will suit groups, celebrations and travellers who want something less conventional than a standard casino hotel room.
Casino and Westgate SuperBook
Westgate has a large casino, but the hotel offers enough beyond gaming that gambling never feels like the only reason to stay. The SuperBook is one of its defining spaces, with vast screens, long rows of seating and the atmosphere of a small arena when a major sporting event is underway. Even for guests who are not interested in placing a bet, it is an impressive place to watch sport in Las Vegas.
Our visit coincided with the World Cup, when $2 Modelo draft beers were available during the matches. Combined with the huge screens and communal atmosphere, the offer made the SuperBook an easy place to spend part of an afternoon.
The wider casino floor retains the look and energy of a classic Las Vegas resort. It does not have the restrained design language of a newer boutique hotel, but that is not really the point. Westgate is big, bright and built around entertainment.
Is Westgate Las Vegas close to the Strip?
Westgate sits just off the northern section of the Las Vegas Strip, beside the Las Vegas Convention Center.
The location is particularly practical for business travellers, exhibitors, performers and anyone attending a competition or large-scale event at the Convention Center. It is less convenient for guests who want to walk straight from the lobby to the busiest central section of Las Vegas Boulevard.
Distances in Las Vegas can be deceptive and intense heat makes even a relatively short journey feel ambitious. Westgate’s transport connections therefore make a considerable difference.
Monorail and Vegas Loop access
Westgate has its own Las Vegas Monorail station, providing direct access to several major hotels and attractions along the Strip.
The Westgate station also connects to the Vegas Loop, where passengers travel in Tesla vehicles through underground tunnels to the Las Vegas Convention Center, Resorts World and several hotels along the Strip. It is fast, futuristic and surprisingly fun, with changing tunnel lights and each driver’s choice of music adding a little theatre to the journey.
Being slightly removed from the main Strip also has advantages. The property feels like a destination in its own right rather than simply another casino in a continuous line of resorts.

Westgate is lively and often crowded, with the scale and personality of a classic casino resort. That personality is exactly what makes it interesting. Elvis remains part of the building’s story, Barry Manilow continues to fill the theatre, couples dance beside the International Bar and the Sphere performs silently outside the bedroom window.
Westgate does not offer a carefully edited version of Las Vegas. It gives you several eras of the city at once.
