ART IN RESONANCE 2026 AT THE PENINSULA HONG KONG, CONTEMPORARY ART AND LUXURY TRAVEL

ART IN RESONANCE 2026 AT THE PENINSULA HONG KONG, CONTEMPORARY ART AND LUXURY TRAVEL

Where contemporary art, architecture and luxury hospitality converge, The Peninsula Hong Kong’s Art in Resonance programme reveals how the future of creative travel is being shaped through immersive cultural experience.

INSIDE THE PENINSULA’S ART RENAISSANCE, HOW LUXURY HOTELS ARE BECOMING THE WORLD’S MOST UNEXPECTED ART SPACES

In March 2026, Hong Kong’s cultural calendar reaches a new crescendo as The Peninsula Hong Kong unveils the latest edition of its global Art in Resonance programme, developed in collaboration with the Victoria and Albert Museum.

At first glance, this may read as another luxury hotel commissioning contemporary art. Look closer and a more ambitious narrative emerges, one that places architecture, heritage, global creativity and public engagement in direct conversation. In an era where museums are rethinking audiences and hotels are redefining cultural relevance, Art in Resonance sits at the intersection of art, design and creative travel, offering a clear signal of where cultural tourism is heading next.

When Luxury Hospitality Meets Contemporary Art

Launched in 2019, Art in Resonance was conceived as far more than visual embellishment. The programme commissions emerging and mid career artists to create site specific works responding directly to the architectural language and cultural histories of The Peninsula’s properties around the world.

For 2026, the programme returns to Hong Kong during the city’s Arts Month, presenting new commissions by three leading contemporary figures, Angel Hui, Albert Yonathan Setyawan, and Dr. William Lim. Each artist transforms a distinct area of the hotel into a lived art experience, dissolving the boundary between gallery space, public realm and luxury hospitality.

Now in its second year of collaboration with the V and A, the programme gains additional curatorial depth and institutional authority. It is a rare alignment, a heritage hotel group and one of the world’s most influential museums working together to create cultural encounters accessible not only to guests, but to the city itself.

Hong Kong as a Canvas

Angel Hui, Rewriting the City’s Façade

Hong Kong based artist Angel Hui has been commissioned to create a major installation for the façade of The Peninsula Hong Kong, a work designed to be experienced by the public at street level. Her project explores cultural identity through a contemporary lens, transforming the hotel’s historic exterior into a dynamic surface where heritage and innovation converge.

Hui’s selection to represent Hong Kong at the 61st Venice Biennale reinforces the significance of her commission. Her presence within Art in Resonance highlights the programme’s growing reputation as a launchpad for artists moving from regional recognition to global platforms.

Albert Yonathan Setyawan, Ritual, Repetition and Quiet Space

Inside The Lobby, Tokyo based Indonesian artist Albert Yonathan Setyawan presents a contemplative ceramic installation shaped by ritual, repetition and ideas of sacred space.

Curated in partnership with the V and A by Dr Louis Copplestone, Curator for South East Asia at the museum, the work reflects a wider shift in contemporary practice, moving away from spectacle towards materiality, stillness and cross cultural narrative.

The installation invites visitors to slow down, to observe form and texture, and to experience the hotel not as a transient environment but as a place of pause and reflection.

Dr. William Lim and Tai Ping, Architecture as Art

On the first floor near The Verandah, guests encounter a new collaboration between architect artist Dr. William Lim and luxury carpet house Tai Ping.

A leading figure in Hong Kong’s architecture and design community, Lim brings a multidisciplinary approach that blends spatial thinking, material research and cultural commentary. The collaboration marks Tai Ping’s second year working with Art in Resonance, continuing a shared exploration of craftsmanship, heritage and identity through design.

From Istanbul to Hong Kong, A Global Cultural Network

Art in Resonance extends far beyond a single city. The programme reflects The Peninsula’s evolution from luxury hospitality brand to active cultural patron.

Following the success of the 2025 edition in Istanbul, which showcased works by Peruvian born artist Grimanesa Amorós, the 2026 programme places renewed emphasis on elevating Asian artists within international discourse.

Previously commissioned works continue to travel across the Peninsula portfolio. Artist Lin Fanglu’s She’s Bestowed Love, first presented in Hong Kong, is currently exhibited at the V and A South Kensington as part of Dimensions, Contemporary Chinese Studio Crafts, with elements set to appear at The Peninsula London in early 2026.

The result is a living network of artworks moving across cities and institutions, mirroring the itineraries of today’s culturally engaged travellers.

Art in Resonance, Redefining the Cultural Role of Luxury Hotels

Luxury travel is undergoing a quiet but significant transformation. Travellers increasingly seek cultural depth, intellectual engagement and meaningful experiences rather than surface level aesthetics.

Art in Resonance responds directly to this shift. By embedding contemporary art into the fabric of its hotels, The Peninsula creates encounters that feel organic rather than staged, immersive rather than transactional.

For Hong Kong, the programme carries additional cultural weight. At a moment when the city is redefining its place on the global cultural map, initiatives like this position it not only as a financial or luxury destination, but as a serious contributor to international contemporary art.

For creative travellers, the message is clear, some of the most compelling cultural experiences now exist beyond traditional museums and biennales, unfolding instead in the spaces where art, architecture and hospitality intersect.
