THE BEST JACKET STYLES FOR WINTER

It’s safe to say that winter is most definitely on its way; the temperatures have begun to drop and the rain is making an intermittent return. It’s probably time you started thinking about your winter wardrobe and how to upgrade it to brave the wintry conditions outside.

One of the most obvious updates to your wardrobe is outerwear. Coats and jackets are a necessity for this time of year, so if you’ve not found your go-to style yet, here are some of the best styles to choose from this season.

Parka jacket
A parka jacket often offers a longer length, making it a popular choice for the winter months. Parka jackets are usually hooded, with extra faux fur around the trim for creating ample warmth in the cold season. If you’re not too keen on the faux fur, many jackets will have a detachable feature!
This style is particularly great for the winter because parkas are designed with padding, big pockets and full zips, sometimes combined with extra buttons. Allowing you to truss yourself up in even the iciest of weather, a parka jacket is often a go-to for the ultimate winter coat.
Wear your parka with pretty much anything; it’s style makes it a versatile jacket no matter the occasion.

Puffer jacket
Another jacket style that reappears every winter is the puffer jacket. Created using a quilted design with insulating padding, they have a unique trademark appearance that has been proven to keep you warm through the winter. Inspired by the troubles of a traveller in the 1930s, the need for a lightweight but warm jacket was born.
Puffer jackets can be designed with or without a hood and provide ample pockets. They are a much more casual choice, with a shorter length than parkas, making them perfect for throwing on for a trip to the pub or out to town. Puffer jackets are popular in brighter colours like red and blue, perfect for cheering up the miserable winter weather.

Windcheater
A lightweight jacket that’s ideal for when it’s raining, windcheaters do what they say on the tin; ideal for batting off the wind while you’re out and about. Usually made with waterproof fabric, they are part of a modern technical outerwear trend that’s taking AW18 by storm (literally).
Easy to wear over anything, a windcheater often has a high neck with ribbed cuffs and waistband. Sometimes known as a windbreaker, they are particularly great for unpredictable weather and can be kept for the transitional periods in between seasons. Either way, you’ll get your wear out of your windcheater through the winter and even next spring!

Shearling jacket
A smarter option for your winter coat wardrobe is a shearling jacket. Their versatile design gives you ample choice; a shearling jacket is pretty much any design that has a shearling lining. Popular styles include leather, denim and suede jackets with a shearling inner and often a shearling collar.
Ideal for providing that extra bit of warmth, shearling or borg are both hugely on trend this season. They can be reserved for evening occasions or other similar events where a smarter jacket would be a better option.
