The sunny shores of Marbella have always been a symbol of luxury, leisure and excess. For decades, this Spanish city on the Mediterranean coast has drawn the international elite with its glamorous lifestyle, stunning beaches, 5 star hotels and picturesque old town. But beyond the glitz and glamour, Marbella is a city with a rich history and culture, and plenty of opportunities to explore. It may be best known for its luxury lifestyle, but it is also home to a vibrant creative community.

The art scene in Marbella is diverse and thriving, with galleries showcasing contemporary and traditional works of art.

Yusto/Giner Gallery

The Yusto / Giner Gallery, located in an industrial area of the city, is dedicated to national and international contemporary art exhibits with works from emerging and established artists, making it a must-see for anyone visiting the city. The gallery includes four exhibition rooms of different sizes, one of which is specifically dedicated to audiovisual production, allowing it to host a wide variety of exhibitions and artistic events.

Another venue worth visiting is the Contemporary Art Centre of Malaga, which is located just a short drive from Marbella. The center is home to a mix of local and international artists, making it a hub for cultural exchange. Located in an area known as Soho de Málaga, on the banks of the Guadalmedina river, the Centro de Arte Contemporáneo is an exciting modern art museum housed in a vast, former wholesale market building of some 2,400 metres and has established itself as one of the most important contemporary art museums in Europe.

Picasso Museum Malaga

Nestled in the heart of city the Picasso Museum Malaga is a cultural treasure trove that pays homage to the life and work of one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. From the moment you step inside this enchanting palace-turned-museum, you’re transported to a world of creativity, innovation, and boundless imagination – a world that’s uniquely Picasso’s.

The museum’s collection spans Picasso’s entire artistic career, from his early sketches and paintings to his later experimental works. The exhibits are thoughtfully curated and arranged in chronological order, allowing you to witness the artist’s evolution over time. Along the way, you’ll encounter some of his most iconic masterpieces, including ‘La Vie,’ ‘Les Demoiselles d’Avignon,’ and ‘The Three Dancers.

Avenida del Mar

In addition to galleries, Marbella also boasts a number of public art spaces, such as the Avenida del Mar, where sculptures by Salvador Dali and Eduardo Soriano can be seen.  The outdoor collection brings together 10 sculptures designed by Dali and cast in bronze by Bonvicini in Verona. It’s one of the few free places you can see his fabulous work in one place, for free! The port area also features striking public art, including a large marble sculpture by Jaume Plensa.

The artistic scene of the area is a testament to the city’s commitment to culture and creativity. Its galleries and public art spaces establish Marbella as a hub for artistic expression in the Mediterranean.
