GENESIS P-ORRIDGE: THE UNCOMPROMISING LIFE OF A GENDER REVOLUTIONARY ART ICON

Genesis P-Orridge, pioneering musician, provocateur, spiritual seeker, and gender revolutionary, embodied art in every facet of their existence. A relentless trailblazer who consistently blurred lines, questioned boundaries, and upended cultural norms, P-Orridge chose to live their art to its absolute extremes. And now, in a final act of radical authenticity, they lay themselves bare one last time.

There are artists who influence culture and then there are those who detonate it. Genesis P-Orridge belonged firmly to the latter camp. Musician, occult explorer, performance artist, gender theorist, cultural saboteur: their life was not a career but a continuous act of artistic insurgency. With S/he Is Still Her/e, the official documentary from Doc’n Roll Films, director David Charles Rodrigues captures P-Orridge’s final year with rare intimacy not as nostalgic mythmaking, but as a confrontation with mortality, identity and legacy. For a generation raised on algorithm-fed culture, this film feels urgent: a reminder that art can still be dangerous, destabilising and defiantly human.

From the confrontational noise experiments of Throbbing Gristle to the psychedelic multimedia universe of Psychic TV, P-Orridge consistently treated identity as medium and body as canvas. The documentary doesn’t soften that history. It leans into it , charting a life lived without compromise and asking what radical self-expression truly costs.

For Fused, where creative culture, boundary-pushing art and lived experience intersect, this is not simply a music documentary. It is a study in authorship, of self, of myth, of form and a meditation on how far an artist can go when there are no rules left to break.

Doc’n Roll Films proudly announces the UK and Ireland theatrical release of S/he Is Still Her/e – The Official Genesis P-Orridge Doc, a profoundly personal documentary that intimately captures the legendary artist’s final year. Opening nationwide on 20th June 2025, the film will hold special preview screenings from 12th June 2025, featuring exclusive Q&A sessions with Genesse P-Orridge, Genesis’s daughter, and additional special guests yet to be announced.

GENESIS P-ORRIDGE: THE UNCOMPROMISING LIFE OF A GENDER REVOLUTIONARY ART ICON

Directed by the acclaimed David Charles Rodrigues (Gay Chorus Deep South, Neymar: The Perfect Chaos), this authorised documentary provides unprecedented access to Genesis’s raw emotional landscape as they confront their mortality, laying bare the extraordinary sacrifices and transcendent rewards of a life dedicated entirely to radical self-expression. Rodrigues artfully weaves together rare archival footage and intimate interviews, with profound insights from cultural icons such as William Burroughs, Brion Gysin, Timothy Leary, Alice Genese of Psychic TV, David J from Bauhaus, and mystical encounters with Nepalese monks and African witch doctors. The film even includes a remarkable and unexpected cameo from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, underscoring Genesis’s pervasive cultural impact.

From their incendiary beginnings as a founding member of Throbbing Gristle, Genesis emerged at the forefront of the industrial music movement, championing provocative themes, electronic experimentation, and confrontational live performances. The band’s visceral approach not only challenged societal norms but also laid a foundation for numerous musical innovators to explore avant-garde sounds and provocative performances.

In 1981, P-Orridge’s boundless creativity birthed Psychic TV, a multimedia collective that further blurred boundaries between music, visual art, performance, and spiritual exploration. Psychic TV boldly embraced psychedelia, punk, occult practices, and radical concepts of identity and mysticism, profoundly influencing contemporary music and culture. Through Psychic TV, Genesis developed a powerful platform that questioned gender constructs and spiritual boundaries, significantly influencing LGBTQ+ communities and progressive cultural dialogues worldwide.

Genesis was also an influential visual artist, producing striking collages, provocative sculptures, and immersive mixed-media installations that explored and challenged conventional concepts of identity, spirituality, and physical transformation. Their groundbreaking Pandrogyne project—undertaken alongside partner Lady Jaye Breyer P-Orridge—became a groundbreaking exploration into the dissolution of gender binaries. The ambitious project merged their identities into a single unified being, significantly advancing conversations around gender fluidity, identity politics, and the boundaries of bodily autonomy.
